Thì quá khứ đơn là một trong những thì cơ bản, thường xuất hiện trong đề thi. Vì vậy, nếu không nắm chắc kiến thức, bạn sẽ rất khó để hoàn thành các bài tập cũng như bài thi. 1. Tổng hợp kiến thức cơ bản

1.1. Cách dùng thì quá khứ đơn

• Diễn tả một hành động, sự việc đã xảy ra và kết thúc tại một thời điểm cụ thể hoặc mọt khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ
  Ví dụ: I was Japan last year
• Diễn tả một hành động lặp đi lặp lại trong quá khứ.
  Ví dụ: He always enjoyed going swiming.
• Diễn đạt các hành động xảy ra liên tiếp trong quá khứ
  Ví dụ: Peter went out, had diner, then came back home
• Diễn đạt một hành động xen vào một hành động đang diễn ra trong quá khứ.
  Ví dụ: John was listening to music, his friend came
• Diễn đạt hành động không có thật ở hiện tại trong câu điều kiện loại III.
  Ví dụ: If I were you, I wouldn’t buy this car

1.2. Công thức

• Động từ thường
  • (+) S + V-ed + O
  • (-) S + did not + Vinf + O
  • (?)Q: Did + S + Vinf + O? A: Yes, S + did hoặc No, S + didn’t

Cấu trúc thì quá khứ đơn

• Động từ tobe
  • (+) S + was/ were + O
  • (-) S + was/were not + O
  • (?) Q: Was/Were+ S + N/Adj? – A: Yes, S + was/were hoặc No, S + wasn’t/weren’t

1.3. Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì quá khứ đơn

Để nhận ra động từ cần chia ở thì quá khứ đơn, bạn nên chú ý những từ sau có trong câu:

• Yesterday: Hôm qua
• Last night: Tối qua
• Last week: Tuần trước
• Last month: Tháng trước
• Last year: Năm ngoái
• Ago: Cách đây
• At, on, in… + thời gian trong quá khứ
• When + mệnh đề chia thì quá khứ đơn

1.4. Các động từ quá khứ đơn

• Ta thêm “-ed” vào sau động từ: Watch – watched / turn – turned/ want – wanted/ attach – attached/…

• Động từ tận cùng là “e” -> ta chỉ cần cộng thêm “d”: type – typed/ smile – smiled/ agree – agreed

• Động từ có MỘT âm tiết, tận cùng là MỘT phụ âm, trước phụ âm là MỘT nguyên âm -> ta nhân đôi phụ âm cuối rồi thêm “-ed”: stop – stopped/ shop – shopped/ tap – tapped/

Ngoại lệ một số từ không áp dụng quy tắc đó: commit – committed/ travel – travelled/  prefer – preferred

• Động từ tận cùng là “y”:
  • Nếu trước “y” là MỘT nguyên âm (a,e,i,o,u) ta cộng thêm “ed”. Ví dụ: play – played/ stay – stayed
  • Nếu trước “y” là phụ âm (còn lại ) ta đổi “y” thành “i + ed”. Ví dụ: study – studied/ cry – cried

1.5. Cách phát âm ed

Một số động từ bất quy tắc không thêm “ed”.

Có một số động từ khi sử dụng ở thì quá khứ không theo quy tắc thêm “ed”. Dưới đây một số động từ bất quy tắc thường gặp

Chia động từ phù hợp với từ trong ngoặc
